Happy Summer!

There will be a little slowing down around here at The Children's Corner. We're all doing just fine at our house, really great actually. I've just decided to give my everything to my little family this summer and do nothing but be with them. Completely and totally. We'll probably spend our days at the pool and our nights roasting marshmallows. I do hope you will take the summer as well and spend some extra time with those sweet little ones. It's the summers that they remember most.

I'm going to be totally honest with you by saying 3/4 of my closet could be considered nautical. I'm in love with stripes, and by default my little one wears almost nothing but. Some day we will live so close to a harbor that it is only natural to wear all things nautical. Some day...:)

Here are a few things nautical that I am loving.

Vintage-Modern Furniture

I've been collecting these images for quite some time now. My eye has been drawn to vintage modern lately. It's fun and different. What do you think? Would you use some of this in your children's play areas?

Designed in the 1950s by the ELBE Factory in Sweden, from Retro Modern Design

A cool tool for teaching your child their ABC’s! Inspired by vintage printing blocks, made by Kent and London

This beautiful Noah's Arc looking cradle is handmade by Katrin Arens. Looks like such a peaceful place to lay a bitty babe.

Isn't this fun? It's Mukaki

This rocker seems like a great idea, I don’t know why they aren’t more common.

This giant bird nest was designed by Merav Eitan and Gaston Zahr as part of the Green Garden Exhibition.

Looks so inviting, doesn’t it?

I've been in to clouds lately (literally). So cute, eh? This one is from Richard Shed's Kid City project. Check it out here

Zelig is a wonderful collection of children’s chairs by Israeli designer Elad Ozeri. They would be very cool in a play room.

Saved my favorite for last. Love, love this Eames rocker. CoMods Etsy Shop is the place to find it.

DIY - Bright White Onsies

If you're expecting your second (plus) baby and you've been pulling out those old onsies, here is a remedy for getting out all those yellow spit up stains. Supermom really is super.

First, she divided the clothes into two loads by size; one load for 0-3 months items and another for 3-6 months.
- Put the the first load into the washer with two scoops of Oxi Clean (she buys the big tub from Costco) and a small amount of laundry detergent. She lets the agitator run for about 5 minutes and then let the load soak overnight.
- In the morning she poured white vinegar into the fabric softener compartment on my machine. Vinegar is helpful during the rinse/spin cycle to break down excess detergent that might “stick” and create residue on the clothes. If your washer doesn’t have a fabric softener compartment you can get a fabric softener ball to throw into your wash — it automatically dispenses at the right time. Since these clothes will be going next to sensitive baby skin, she also sets her washer for a second rinse cycle to make sure everything rinsed out nice and clean.
- Once the washer was done, she transferred the clothes to the dryer but as she did so she checked each piece to make sure the yellow spots were gone. The soak and wash worked really well but there were a few pieces that still had spots. She kept those items out of the dryer (for fear of setting the stains), and applied spot stain removers and then rewashed. She also let these items hang out on the clothes line as the sun is supposed to help fade the spots.
- Repeat the above process with your second, 3-6 months load.
Now most of the stored baby clothes should be ready for new baby to wear, and whatever didn’t come clean enough can be added to the toss/donate piles.

Kids with Style - Tate

Ok, I know I'm the author of this little bloggy and I'm never supposed to pick favorites on the little kiddos I feature, but I just can't help myself on this one. Little miss Tate is my favorite. Yes... I just said it. It takes everything I have to not smile when I look at these photos. I am smitten with them. All of them and her style is everything I love in little girls. From head to toe, miss Tate's style screams modish. Could it be thanks to her incredibly talented/beautiful/about to birth two(!) precious boys mama Chelsea? I think so. Remember now when I shared these lovelies with you? Well, Chelsea is the creativity behind those beauties and you'd be silly to not run and buy yourself a little clippy or two. Now, go! But enjoy cute Tate first :)

A Baking Birthday Party

I probably would have died and gone to heaven if I were invited to a party like this as a little girl. Seriously. Check out their hats and aprons. The flowers are made from cupcake liners. And that garland you see there is made from the same. So stinkin' cute! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom for a tutorial for the garland done by One Charming Party. Never been there before? Oh, well give yourself a good two hours to peruse it. Loving every party ever created by those gals.
